Make this Japanese-style barbecue sauce to serve with crispy tofu, katsu chicken or your favourite Japanese dishes – it’s a great blend of sweet and savoury

1½ tbsp ketchup2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce or vegan alternative 1 tbsp tamari soy or dark soy sauce2 tsp oyster sauce (vegan, if needed) or brown sauce 1 tbsp date syrup or honey 2 tsp muscovado sugar1 tbsp ground white sesame seeds (optional)
STEP 1Put all the ingredients in an airtight jar or container, then mix well until combined. Taste for seasoning, adding more sugar or soy sauce, if needed. Stir in the ground white sesame seeds, if using. Will keep chilled for one month.
